Molding and tooling are essential worldwide; pandemic propels new business structures

The logo of Instituto Queretano de Herramentales (IQH) Between 60 to 70% of the products in the world that were creating using a process require a mold or a tooling to make the process possible; that’s why the molding and tooling models are very important worldwide; in addition it is still an important cause when one talks about a country dedicated primarily to manufacturing. According to engineer Miguel Ángel Aguirre, manager of Clúster de Plásticos de Querétaro, and manager of Instituto Queretano de Herramentales, molding and tooling are fundamental worldwide, but they are even more so in economies based in manufacturing. Aguirre says that FABTECH 2021 is the ideal tradeshow for those dedicated to manufacturing, technology, and molding and tooling”. Aguirre, who is part of and manages different institutions, claimed that all of these associations have a common goal to find best practices and make industrial activity easier, by joining the entrepreneurs, their goal is to do business or seek ways of optimization, as well as to share good practices and experiences. As the leader of an organization that groups plastic producers, Aguirre urges us to reflect on the number of products that incorporate this material and that are part of everyday life and says “… if you look at your car, 60% or more of its parts come from the plastic sector and also require a tooling, and if you look at your clothes, there is some acrylic or polyester where a spindle is needed, the spindle is practically a mold and also a tool to manufacture yarn of a certain density ”. The manager of the Clúster de Plásticos claims that in México billions of pesos in molds are imported per year, according to data collected from 2018 and 2019; of those billions, México participates with only 5% or less on national manufacturing, a figure that makes obvious the potential of development it has. Aguirre adds that FABTECH is the opportunity for industrialists to feedback about to know where they are going to and keep growing, not only on importation, but also on generating molding for the national market and then to export. Engineer Aguirre suggests concentrating the vision on the favorable aspects that Mexico has, among which he mentions that the country has young people who are already familiar with this market from their academic training, knowing in their careers the design of molds, use and management of CNC , of machining, welding and laser cutting machines. Finally, Aguirre concludes by mentioning the new business opportunities that the pandemic has generated;, “…so our industrial sector has been transformed, now it manufactures masks, making a mask requires 3 or 4 molds, extrusion pieces, injection and elastomer pieces, these masks protect the industrial staff who work with chemical products that produce polluting gas, they also produce face masks, polyester suits, gloves and protective goggles, so this virus has produced a business opportunity, it strengthened the plastic bag sector, and revived the disposable sector because home delivery also created an opportunity for plastic dishes ”.
